For more than twenty years, the Rassegna Company has been offering a singular vision of Mediterranean music and songs by crossing folk, early and current music.
The company was created in 1999 in Marseille by Bruno Allary, guitarist and composer with a double culture between jazz and flamenco. Surrounded by artists from diverse backgrounds and faithful to his taste for diversity and unruly creative approaches, he cultivates an aesthetic of the in-between that knowingly disturbs genres and codes, testing the main lines of shared cultures and genres (instrumental/vocal, early/folk).
The mobilized instrumentarium becomes a sound toolbox, mixing according to needs, traditional and electrical instruments, ancient manuscripts and electro-acoustic materials.
In every creation by Bruno Allary and the Compagnie Rassegna a double crossing is played out : geographical – that of a plural and enlarged Mediterranean – and historical – that of a long and stratified time. This represents a tight intertwining of places and stories, bouncing back in our time and questioning, in the hollow of the artistic, the tacit representations specific to the imaginaries of the Mediterranean.
